Radio Bean 02.01.14

The first show of 2014 and I couldn’t be more pleased with how it went… well I could be more pleased, but only because I’m a miserable bastard.

I kid, though. The crowd was wonderful – I think this is most attentive crowd I’ve ever seen and I even captured a few of the folks who were there to see the band that played before me. They were called Peg House – a drummer and a guitarist with some very tight harmonies and a very enthusiastic crowd.

Anyway, here’s tonight’s set list:

  1. Ordinary Day
  2. Dogs at the Door
  3. Redemption on Pearl
  4. Stupid Lullaby
  5. Jesus in Chains
  6. All the Same to You
  7. That Person Aside You
  8. A Jerk’s Lament
  9. 10. Ain’t No Sunshine (Bill Withers cover)
  11. Mind This Mind
  12. Gravity
  13. My Fear of Losing You
  14. Internet Famous

As I said earlier, the crowd was great. A few people even got up and danced during “Ain’t No Sunshine”… Actually that was kind of weird for me, but my previous experience informs me that people dancing is generally a good thing.

Speaking of dance, I had The Buskerettes in full effect this evening, once again bringing the moves and making up for the fact that I have the looks of a baby troll. Radio Bean even captured a video. I would post a link to it, but it’s late and I’m lazy. I’ll share it on Facebook if you’re interested.

I really had a lovely evening and can’t wait to do it again on March 7.

Lastly, I’m pretty sure Joe Adler wore a coat and tie for me. He’ll probably deny it, but we know better.

Dance Songs, Vol. II+

So I’m releasing an album. It’s actually an old album that I’m re-releasing with 2 new tracks because it’s been over a year since I’ve officially released anything.

It’s called “Dance Songs, Vol. II+”

Here’s the cover art:

I’m told it will be available online on September 24. Which, coincidentally is also the date of a new Radio Bean show. I play at 8:30. It’s like kismet.

  10. Mind This Mind
  11. My Fear of Losing You

Tonight introduced the first ever use of the Animoog in my live shows. In rehearsal I’ve been putting it on my knee to play “You Know” but I failed to account for how smooth my suit is. The damn thing kept slipping off so I had to put it aside. I play it with my toes for “Dogs at the Door” and it went pretty well. Joe even got a picture:
Busker Toes

I capo’d the wrong fret for “Jesus in Chains” and ended up singing it half a step lower than normal but it turned out alright. And then I really needed some water halfway through “Mind This Mind”, but the show must go on, right? Overall I felt good about the evening.

After my set I ran into a lovely woman at the bar who really enjoyed it. It’s always nice to get good feedback from someone you don’t know. Makes you think you might not totally suck.

Radio Bean 08.23.13

So I’m playing at the Radio Bean tonight. Starts at eight. Ends at nine. Local singer-songwriter Laura Heaberlin is playing prior to and some dude named Dietrich Gosser is playing after. I’m hoping to get there a little early to see Laura play – I’ve seen the name around but haven’t had the opportunity to check her out. Dietrich has a quote on his Facebook profile from the Onion AV Club, so that’s something. Of course, I didn’t follow the link to see if it was legit but I’m sure it is.

…although it is common practice for certain fringe journalists (insane fringe, not Seven Days fringe) to include dubious quotes in their articles by quoting quotes that are quoted in a respectable publication. Insane Person 1 says, “I think babies should be branded with red hot irons to toughen them up”; and then Respectable Journalist writes, “This person (who I will hint is insane but will not say so outright) has said that ‘babies should be branded with red hot irons to toughen them up'” and has it published in the local newspaper; and then Fringe Journalist writes, “Local newspaper wrote that babies should be branded…”.

Now the discerning reader will notice that branding babies is a really strange position for Local Newspaper to take and will do some investigating and discover what Fringe Journalist has done. But Fringe Journalist isn’t writing for Discerning Reader. Fringe Journalist is writing for the person that already believes that branding babies is a good idea and just wants their view confirmed. Meanwhile other news outfits pick up on Fringe Journalist’s story about Local Newspaper branding babies and after a dozen more stories, the original quote from Insane Person 1 has been almost completely masked. You can find it, but you have to search, and who has time for that?

Not that I would ever do anything like. And I would never link to anything like that at all. That would be wrong.

Anyway, I’m sure Dietrich’s quote is totally legit and I’m interested to see him tonight.

On a totally unrelated note, what the hell is up with the Firefox dictionary? It has ‘profiterole’ but not ‘profile’? That’s messed up.
